  • How much will I pay?
Between £30 and £60 per session.

Counselling Works has a sliding scale of charges according to the category of counsellor you select (see the Affiliate section for details). The first session is paid by debit or credit card (cash or cheque by arrangement only). A one-off, £12.00 fee to cover the cost of making the initial arrangements for you is added to the first session. Some counsellors may charge extra for evenings and weekend appointments.

The fees you pay will be fully explained to you before you see a counsellor - there are no concealed charges.

You will pay the counsellor directly by cash or cheque for any subsequent sessions.
  • How quickly can I see a counsellor?
This is simple –we don’t have a waiting list!

We will offer you an appointment, with a suitable counsellor, within 7 days! We realise that crises don’t happen by appointment – in a few weeks time. If you have a problem you need help quickly. If we can’t provide a suitable counsellor quickly we will say so. We are confident about this because we help hundreds of new clients every year and we have never had to turn any one away or break our seven day guarantee (exception when the clients have say that they would like an appointment after their holiday!).

When you first contact us we will spend time talking on the phone to you. We will work hard to understand your needs and match you to a suitably experienced counsellor – you don’t just get the next counsellor on the list. Research indicates that the relationship between clients and counsellor is the best indicator of successful outcomes.

  • How many sessions will I need?
It is difficult  to say. We know that the average number of sessions people have with us is 8, but some people elect to see a counsellor for a long time, others are happy with very few sessions. It will ALWAYS be your choice and our counsellors will never pressurise you to have more sessions than you need. We see that as unethical.

  • Can I be assured of high professional standards?
We physically see the qualifications of a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist.

All counsellors are required to have regular clinical supervision of their work at least once a month.

They must be members of a professional counselling association with an enforceable code of ethics. Counsellors are members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), or the Confederation of Scottish Counselling Agencies (COSCA), or British Psychological Society, or the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.

All counsellors are required to hold individual Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Counselling Works is also an Organisational member of BACP and has it's own Professional Liabilities insurance.
  • Will you help me to select the right counsellor?
Yes, this is very important to us. We will spend time understanding your needs and will help you to find a counsellor who is just right for you.

In the rare event that you decide you would like to change to a different counsellor you will not be asked to pay a second Administration Fee.

  • Where will the counselling take place?
We have our own counselling premises in Bedford & Milton Keynes.

We can also make arrangements for you with counsellors who have attended our own training courses and we are therefore confident of their work. They are situated all over the country:
